Chennai: The counting of votes on Saturday passed off peacefully barring a brief incident when the AIADMK candidate who contested from ward 64 in

Otteri

demanded that the process be stopped, saying as the booth number on the counting box was incorrect. Police had prepared for the worst, deploying a huge posse of personnel in and around the 11 counting centres.
In Otteri, the AIADMK’s D Krishnamurthy protested after he saw that the booth number on the

EVM

was 1462 instead of 1426. The votes polled in wards under Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and

Kolathur

constituencies were being counted at the government polytechnic institute in Otteri. Revenue officials checked the EVM and found his statement was true. The mistake was rectified and a recount was done. The process was stalled for about 15 minutes.
Chennai police commissioner

Shankar Jiwal

said elaborate security measures were in place at all counting centres. “There was no untoward incident,” he said and appreciated the police personnel involved.
Avadi commissioner

Sandeep Rai Rathore

visited the counting centres in his jurisdiction.
