CHENNAI: Criminal cases and criminal activities have come down in the last eight months, claimed police commissioner

Details of anti-socials have been collected and crackdown on the active criminals continues, the officer said.

In the last week, police took measures to curtail the supply of drugs, especially from Andhra Pradesh to Chennai, he said, adding efforts are on to prevent selling of drugs and gutkha, banned tobacco products near schools and colleges.

He was speaking at an awareness programme for road-users organised by the

Times of India

and Suzuki Motors. The event aimed at preventing accidents on city roads. Such campaigns will be held for 15 days at three important traffic junctions every day. The first one was inaugurated by

Jiwal

at the

Adyar

police station on LB Road on Tuesday.

Police have also planned to distribute appreciation certificates to motorists abide by traffic rules. "Traffic police have been advised to wear body cameras at key junctions," Jiwal said.

The city police will soon get an exclusive cyber lab built at ₹6.5 crore under the Nirbhaya fund, the commissioner said.
