Customs seize Rs 13.4 crore worth of watches, adult toys, and footwear at Chennai port

CHENNAI: In two different seizures at Chennai port, the special investigation and intelligence branch (SIIB) of Chennai Customs seized Rs 13.4 crore worth of watches, footwear, cosmetics, and adult toys.

Based on a tip-off, customs sleuths searched a container that arrived from China and found expensive watches hidden in them. The goods were misdeclared as wooden disposable spoons. The seized items were sent for verification for possible intellectual property rights violations. The consignment also contained adult toys, the import of which is prohibited, officials said.

In another seizure, customs sleuths seized branded footwear, which was falsely declared as backpacks and trolley bags. The total seizure from three containers is worth 9.09 crore. tnn
