Cyclone Burevi
started making landfall near
Trincomalee
in Sri Lanka around 8.30pm and is expected to emerge over the Gulf of Mannar on December 3 morning before entering the Indian coast between Pamban and Kanyakumari, between December 3 and December 4 morning.
The impact of the storm over south coastal districts is likely to begin over Ramanathapuram district on December 3 forenoon, with heavy rainfall and squally wind. It will gradually cover Kanyakumari district.
In its evening bulletin, the IMD said the cyclonic storm was likely to move west-northwestwards and emerge in the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area on December 3 morning. The storm with wind speed of 70-80kmph gusting to 90kmph would be centred very close to Pamban around noon of December 3.
It would then move west-southwestwards across Pamban area by December afternoon and cross south
Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Kanyakumari between December 3 night and December 4 morning with wind speeds of 70-80kmph gusting to 90kmph.
For December 3, the agency forecast extremely heavy rain at isolated places over Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari districts; heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Virudhunagar, Madurai, Theni and Dindigul districts. On December 4, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari districts and heavy spells likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Theni and Dindigul.
