CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday criticised the state govt for its indifference towards drug trafficking," pointing to the DRI's recent seizure of 112kg of pseudoephedrine at Chennai port. He urged for a thorough probe into the root cause of drug trafficking and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

In a statement, Palaniswami stated that drug trafficking could ruin the future of Tamil Nadu's youth and even the future of India and called for efforts from both state and Union govts to combat this issue. He expressed surprise over the "lack of significant action" from state and central govt officers despite the arrest of Jaffer Sadiq, who is reportedly connected to an international drug cartel.

The former chief minister called for police officials to be allowed to act freely and legally against those aiding anti-social elements, without political interference. "In the DMK regime, the anti-socials and the ruling partymen are inextricably linked and have made Tamil Nadu bow its head in shame," he alleged.
