TRICHY: Five members of a
family
died and another suffered injuries when a multi purpose vehicle (MPV) rammed a two-wheeler they were riding on in
Perambalur
district of
Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning.
The deceased have been identified as S Parameshwari, 27, of Veppur her three-year-old daughter S Semnila, Parameshwari's niece Nandhitha, 2, nephew Tamilnilavan, 2, her mother P Dhanam and her younger brother P Sakthivel, 19. Sakthivel was riding the scooter
The accident happened when they were returning home after visiting their relatives in Kulappadi village. While they were nearing Ichilakuttai village on the Kulappadi - Veppur road, the MPV that came from the opposite direction rammed the scooter. All the six members of the family were thrown off the scooter.
Parameshwari, Semnila and Nandhitha died on the spot while Dhanam died in Perambalur Government Hospital. Sakthivel, who was referred to Trichy GH’s intensive care unital, died in the afternoon.
Tamilnilavan, who suffered injuries, was admitted to Perambalur Government Hospital.
The MPV overturned after ramming the scooter. The occupants of the MUV escaped from the spot.
The Kunnam police registered a case, and an inquiry was under way.
