Heavy rain lashes parts of Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi

CHENNAI: Heavy rain was experienced in parts of Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu during the early hours of Friday.

According to the bulletin from the India Meteorological Department, Regional Centre Chennai, there were isolated instances of rainfall across Tamil Nadu on Thursday, while dry conditions persisted over Puducherry and Karaikal areas.

Ramanathapuram received 1 cm of rainfall on Thursday, IMD said.

Maximum temperatures were normal in most areas and above normal in isolated spots in Tamil Nadu, with Puducherry and Karaikal experiencing normal temperatures. The temperature ranged from 37 to 39 degrees Celsius in the plains, 33 to 37 degrees Celsius in coastal regions, and 21 to 30 degrees Celsius in hilly areas.

Erode recorded the highest maximum temperature at 39.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Karur Paramathi at 39.0 degrees Celsius. Several other cities such as Salem, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, and Madurai witnessed temperatures between 38 to 39 degrees Celsius.

Chennai reported normal maximum temperatures. Minimum temperatures rose by 2-3 degrees Celsius in various cities including Erode, Dharmapuri, Karur Paramathi, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchirapalli, and Tondi.

Namakkal had the lowest minimum temperature at 20.0 degrees Celsius in the plains.
