Infosys Foundation ties up with TN ICT Academy for upskilling rural youth
CHENNAI: Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys, on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu to upskill youngsters in engineering, arts and science courses in tier 2 and tier 3 cities across the country.
This aims at upskilling students for career development and helping them with placement, Infosys Foundation said in a release.
The aim is to skill 48,000 students over a period of three years in IT, banking, financial services, retail, ecommerce, logistics, knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and soft skills.
Infosys Foundation will also help establish centers of excellence for women and youth empowerment in over 450 colleges with grants of around Rs 33 crore. These centres will serve as hubs for both online and offline skill development and training.
The curriculum will include 80 hours of training in core skills, 20 hours of training in soft skills, placement facilitation for students as well as coding practice for real-world problems, among others.
Sumit Virmani, trustee of Infosys Foundation, said, “Through our collaboration with the ICT Academy, we will equip young learners in rural India with essential technical and soft skills, consequently improving their industry-readiness and employability in today’s dynamic talent landscape."
V Srikanth, chief executive of ICT Academy, said, “The demand for a workforce skilled in advanced IT, KPO, BFSI, retail, ecommerce and logistics has never been higher."
"This initiative by Infosys Foundation is not just about meeting the immediate needs of the job market. For graduating students, this translates to enhanced employability and greater career opportunities."
