Raids at private buildings, PG stays in Chennai expose international drug network

Chennai: Raids at private apartment complexes and PG accommodation rented by college students in Tambaram and Pallikkaranai uncovered links to an international drug network, leading to the arrest of two Sudanese nationals and four college students on Wednesday.

Tambaram city police, deploying 28 special teams led by inspectors and assisted by sub-inspectors and women officers, targeted locations such as Estancia Apartment, SAFAA, Tranquil Residence, Myroomie Daisy PG (Unisex), VGN Southern Crystal, RKV Avenue, and Urbanrise Revolution One.

Police seized large quantities of ganja from them. Police arrested Sudanese nationals Mohammed Alsmane, 28, a former engineering student, and Mohammad Haythiam, 20, a current student, residing at RKV Avenue in Old Pallavaram. Alsmane, whose visa expired in 2018, was supplying ganja to college students.

Additionally, four college students were arrested in Selaiyur, linked to a network supplying daily shipments of ganja to student-populated areas near educational institutions.

Police said that this crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle both local and international supply chains, with investigations continuing to track down additional members of the drug network.
