Man held, 6 booked for making fake video

Chennai: The Tambaram police on Tuesday arrested a Jharkhand native and booked six others for spreading rumours of violence against guest workers on social media. In a video circulated on social media on March 3, construction labourers claiming to be from Jharkhand complained that they faced problems at their workplace at Maraimalai Nagar in Chennai.Tambaram police commissioner A Amalraj said after the workers said they were beaten up on buses and trains when they tried to leave for their native places and that medical treatment was denied at hospitals in the city, news outlets in north India picked it up and broadcast it. The state police, in a detailed investigation, found that the video was recorded by Manoj Yadav, 42, of Jharkhand and his friends after a fight with their superior. police traced Manoj and recorded a video of him confessing that the video was fake and shot for popularity online.Based on a complaint from the project manager at the site, police booked the seven workers.
