Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Tuesday announced that a mega book park would be established in the state. The government will identify land and extend all necessary support to create the park.
“The government will identify and hand over the land (for the book park). If this comes up, it will ensure that all books will be available at one place. It will create an environment for publishers and buyers to meet at one place. The government will do its best to make it happen,” said the CM at the state government award function at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai.
The government would consult with the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) for setting up the park, added the CM. On the occasion, he handed over awards to 21 recipients from various fields, particularly scholars, to honour their contribution to Tamil language.
“It was former CM M Karunanidhi’s wish to establish such a park. He once said that the government would provide the land and wanted it named ‘Book Park’,” said Stalin.
Awards that were named after some eminent personalities had not been recognised for their contribution to the language during their lifetime. This government would ensure that it would happen in the future,
