Chennai: The city police on Wednesday said they had, with the arrest of six men, solved the murder of a security guard who a gang killed while trying to rob Tasmac cash collection agents near Rajamangalam on April 25.
Images from a security camera and tips from jailbirds in Puzhal Central Prison helped investigators apprehend the suspects.
Investigators identified them as C Sivakumar, 30, C Vijay, 31, V Narayanababu, 36, P Ganesan, 34, S Thangavelayutham, 27, and S Rameshkumar, 36.
A police officer said the gang learned, through a friend in Chennai, about the schedule of the collection agents for the state-run liquor retail monopoly.
Three goons in Tuticorin connived with three acquaintances in Chennai and hatched a plan to waylay the agents and rob them.
"The suspects attacked Rajendran, 54, with sickles when they struck on April 25," the officer said.
Rajendran died of his injuries the next day.
