NDA govt changed country’s global image in last 10 years: PM Modi
VELLORE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday claimed that the global image of the country has changed in the last 10 years under the BJP-led NDA regime.
Addressing a public meeting seeking votes for the candidates of the party and its allies in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, Modi said the country's image before 2014 was poor.
"The world thought the Indian economy was weak and would be doomed soon. There were scams everywhere then in the country," he said.
He appealed to the electorate to vote for the NDA candidates to ensure the development of the nation and the state of Tamil Nadu.
Lambasting DMK for taking Tamil Nadu backwards, Modi said DMK has only three agendas – promote dynastic politics, indulge in corruption and propagate anti-Tamil culture.
He said DMK is a company of one family. The party’s policies and ideas are old and do not permit the youth in the state to grow, he said.
“DMK has the copyright for corruption. The entire DMK family is looting Tamil Nadu. Sand mafias have caused a loss of more than Rs 4,600 crore to the government’s exchequer. DMK did not even spare children. Drugs are freely available in schools. It was the NCB which arrested the drug lord in the state. Do you know which family is close to this drug lord? People will teach a befitting lesson in the forthcoming polls,” said Modi.
Modi said DMK’s policy is to divide people on the lines of language, religion and caste and rule them.
Modi said he spoke in Tamil at the UN convention to declare that Tamil is an ancient language in the world. He recalled the installation of Tamil Nadu’s sengol at the Parliament and regretted that the DMK boycotted the installation ceremony.
He pointed out that Katchatheevu was conceded to Sri Lanka when Congress was in power at the Centre and DMK in Tamil Nadu. “Congress and DMK are not telling the truth. They are keeping the people in the dark,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the NDA government in the last 10 years has been striving hard to protect the rights of Tamil Nadu fishermen. “The NDA government saved five Tamil Nadu fishermen who were sentenced to death by the Sri Lankan court and brought them back to India,” he said.
He recalled the ‘shakti’ remark made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to claim that the Congress party demeans and disrespects women. Its alliance partner DMK too has the same mentality. “Remember their remarks to eradicate Sanatana Dharma and call to boycott Ram Mandir consecration,” he said.
He hailed the state’s contribution to the country’s space programme. “Tamil Nadu’s contribution to the country’s space programme is immense. So is its contribution to the manufacturing sector. Tamil Nadu’s youth is contributing to the nation’s ecosystem,” he said.
He said the entire Tamil Nadu chants ‘one more time Modi Sarkar’ to develop the nation and state in the 21st century. He appealed to people to follow his handle Namo in Tamil on X where he started using technology to chat and interact with people in Tamil.
