"There is an old adage in Tamil which says 'padhinarum petru peru vazhvu vazhga,' meaning that people should have 16 different types of wealth."

"But today, as there is a scenario of decreasing Lok Sabha constituencies, it raises the question: why should we restrict ourselves to having fewer children? Why shouldn't we aim for 16 children?" Stalin said at a function in Chennai, where the HR and CE department organized free marriages.

Earlier, Naidu announced that the Andhra Pradesh government is planning to incentivize families with more children due to the ageing population, and urged people in South Indian states to consider having more children.

The comments from the both chief ministers come after reports that the BJP-led Union government is planning to realign constituencies based on population.
