CHENNAI:

Pilot unions

across airlines have demanded that the aviation ministry take action against a

DGCA official

who pulled up Jet Airways pilots for critically commenting on a a civil aviation requirement (CAR) draft that proposed to set one-year notice period for captains to resign from airlines.

The Delhi police questioned a few pilots after a case was filed against them by the

DGCA

following their inputs on the CAR.

In a letter that was prepared after a meeting of pilots in the city on Wednesday and addressed to civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapati Raju demanded "immediate suspension and departmental action for misusing his official powers to criminally intimidate, coerce and threaten members of the public."

The letter signed by Indian Pilots Guild, Indian Commercial Pilots Association and National Aviator's Guild further states that "it appears that a strong personal bias against professional pilots and an unholy agenda to favour profiteering airlines is being enforced by this officer through criminal intimidation and tyrannical behaviour. This is a threat to air safety and will definitely affect that country's standing in the eyes of the world and the ICAO in particular"
