Police arrest robber 'Neeravi' Murugan

CHENNAI: Notorious robber Murugan alias 'Neeravi' Murugan, who was involved in more than 50 cases, were arrested by a special police team in

Valasaravakkam

on Friday.

In Janauray 2015, police arrested Murugan from Tuticorin. He was involved in a daring robbery of a school teacher in

Thoraipakkam

which was filmed by a college student. The video went viral after it was uploaded on Youtube. It shows Murugan forcing the woman to part with her gold chain, bangles and wrist watch. Murugan was notorious for waylaying, assault and murder.

After coming out of jail, Murugan targeted a realtor in Valasaravakkam. Last month, he robbed ten sovereigns of gold jewellery and an LED TV from the realtor's house when the family was away.

Similary, he attacked an elderly couple at Vadapalani the same time and robbed them of gold jewellery. Based on a complaint, police police started investigating the case. While checking the CCTV footage from the locality, they found Murugan's involvement along with his co-accused Shakthivel. The police launched a search and cornered him in Renigunta but he managed to escape. Later, a special team including sub inspector A Jairam, police constables Shivakolundhan, Vijayan, Haridas and Raj Mohan picked him up near a Valasaravakkam.
