TNSF lecture on breast cancer on Oct 19

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Science Forum is organising a lecture ‘A Novel Therapeutic Approach in Breast Cancer and the Pioneering Role of miRNAs in Cancer Biology' on Oct 19 from 4pm to 6pm at Anna Centenary Library. The event will feature D Karunagaran, emeritus professor at the department of biotechnology and Jyoti Mehta School of BioSciences, IIT Madras, as the speaker. This lecture aims to shed light on how the pioneering work on miRNAs is reshaping cancer therapy and will provide the audience with insights into potential future therapeutic strategies.
Prof Karunagaran has researched epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFRs) and their role in cancer development along with Dr Yosef Yarden from Israel and proposed that ErbB-2 acts as a preferred heterodimeric partner of all known members of the EGFR family, influencing cancer transformation through growth factor signalling transactivation.
Prof Karunagaran will discuss the revolutionary discovery of miRNAs by Victor Ambrose and Gary Ruvkun, which has opened new avenues in gene regulation and cancer biology.
Registration for the free event is available at sciencelecture.tnsfchennai.in.
