As the Tamil Nadu mandate began to take shape on counting day, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) surged ahead across the state, reflecting a mix of consolidated strongholds, steady gains and scattered resistance from the opposition.
Counting in 234 Assembly constituencies began at 8am, starting with postal ballots and moving into successive EVM rounds across multiple secured centres. The ruling party appeared to maintain a firm grip over key regions shaped by welfare politics and entrenched party networks.
While the DMK strengthened its position in urban belts and traditional bastions in northern and central Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK-led opposition managed to hold ground in select pockets, turning a few constituencies into closely watched contests.
Actor-turned-politician Vijay and his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) opened their account strongly in postal ballot trends, and according to early trends, TVK emerged as the single largest party ahead of both the DMK and AIADMK.
