Tamil Nadu govt signs eight MoUs for generating 13,500 jobs

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday signed eight

MoUs

for attracting fresh investments to the tune of Rs 10,399 crore.

The projects, to come up in

Chengalpet

, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Coimbatore, Erode and Villupuram districts, will generate employment for over 13,500 people.

The new projects include Vikram Solar's Rs 5,423 crore solar cells and modules plant at Sriperumbudur, a data centre at an investment of Rs 4,000 crore by Yotta of Hiranandani at Oragadam, private industrial estates in Walajahbad and Ranipet, a cashew nut processing unit in Villupuram and a foundry in Coimbatore.

The MoUs were signed in the presence of state industries minister M C Sampath, chief secretary K Shanmugham, industries secretary N Muruganandham and guidance managing director Neeraj Mittal, a statement from the government said.

In May, despite the state being under lockdown due to Covid-19, the Tamil Nadu government signed 17 MoUs for investments worth Rs 15,128 crore. Those projects, when completed, will generate employment for over 47,000 people.
