VILLUPURAM: Tamil Nadu has the highest percentage of working women (43%) compared to other states in the country, deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said on Tuesday.
Udhayanidhi, who is on a two-day visit to Villupuram district, said the Union govt’s statistics department declared that Tamil Nadu was the number one state in 13 departments in the country.
Distributing Kalaignar sports kits to the beneficiaries in the presence of ministers K Ponmudy and K S Masthan and district collector K Palani at the Govt Law College, Udhayanidhi outlined the contribution of the DMK govt in developing sports and encouraging sportsmen and women.
“Tamil Nadu gives utmost importance to promoting sports activities and encouraging sportsmen and particularly sportswomen. Tamil Nadu hosts international, national and state-level sports events periodically. Tamil Nadu is the first south Indian state to hold a Formula 4 India championship. We are successfully conducting the state-level Chief Minister's Trophy. We are conducting the Chennai Grandmasters Chess Tournament from Tuesday,” he said.
Earlier, Udhayanidhi unveiled a statue of late chief minister and DMK stalwart M Karunanidhi at Tiruvanainalur in the district.
