State of undeclared emergency in India: M K Stalin in letter to public

CHENNAI: India is in a state of undeclared emergency and the public meeting held at Nandanam on March 1 was to stress the need for democratic forces to get together to defeat the forces that are trying to destroy the unity of the nation, chief minister M K Stalin said on Friday.

In a letter addressed to the public, Stalin said, "Today, fascist powers are trying to destroy the unity of the nation. The nation is in the grip of those who are trying to destroy its diverse character. Rights are being taken away from the states. A cultural war is on, where they are trying to destroy our mother tongue and force another language on us. No one is able to act freely. The Indian union is facing an undeclared state of emergency."

Stalin said, "Hence, the focus of the national leaders has once again shifted to south (southern states)."

He said formation of a third front by keeping the Congress out of it would not give desired results. "I believe that we can achieve what was declared on the stage (by various national leaders at Nandanam meeting) through the relentless work of the cadres," he said.

It is the responsibility of the cadres to ensure victory in all the 40 constituencies (in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry) in the ensuing Lok Sabha election. He exuded confidence that the nation would throw the BJP out of power in 2024.

The victory of Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan in the Erode east bypoll, overcoming all slander and false charges, is proof that people support the DMK-led alliance, he said. "I said during the campaign that it was not a bypoll campaign. It was the people's assessment of the DMK government," he said.
