Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority warns of stringent action

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority on Thursday warned of stringent action against people advertising online gambling and online gaming of chance.

Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Act specifically provides for prohibition on playing online gambling and online game of chance, betting and others. Violators will be punished with imprisonment which may extend to three months or a fine which may extend to Rs 5,000 or both. The law also prohibits financial institutions/payment gateways from transactions.

Under the law, no person shall make or cause to make any advertisement in any media that directly or indirectly promotes or induces any person to indulge in online gambling with money or other stakes.

Violators will be punished with imprisonment which may extend to one year or a fine which may extend to Rs 5 lakh or both. If they repeat the offence, they are liable for one to three years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

Those who wish to share information about online gambling and betting or offer suggestions on regulation of online games or air any grievances shall send an email to tnoga@tn.gov.in.
