Three killed in road accidents

Chennai: Three people, including two elderly men, were killed in separate road accidents since Friday in the city.

P Subbiah, 55, a flower vendor from Karaikal, was knocked down by a two-wheeler when he was crossing Old Mahabalibram Road (OMR) in Thoraipakkam on Friday. The man, who sustained grevious injuries in the accident, was rushed to the nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Police have arrested Naveen Gandhi, 19, a college student for death due to rash and negligent riding.

A pedestrian identified as Meganathan, 35, a resident of Thirumazhisai, was run over by a vehicle early on Friday while he was crossing the Vandalur-Minjur Road. Police have registerd a case and are trying to trace the vehicle.

In another accident, an unidentified 60-year-old man was knocked down by a car in Ambattur Industrial Estate on Friday. The driver fled the spot after the accident. Poonamallee traffic cops are trying to determine the identity of the victim.

“We have distributed photographs, and are tracking missing complaints,” said a traffic police officer.
