TN squash teams do a double

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu squash teams did a double by winning gold at the Khelo India Youth Games here on Tuesday. The boys team defeated Uttar Pradesh 2-0 while the girls team got the better of Maharashtra by the same scoreline. The girls team comprised Shameena Riaz, daughter of former Indian hockey International Mohammed Riaz, R Pooja Arthi, Ananya Narayanan and Deepika.
Despite the two gold medals, TN dropped a place in the tally, to the third spot with 17 yellow metals. Defending champions Maharashtra continue to dominate, accumulating 25 gold.
TN twins shine in 800m: TN twins Ansilin and Akslin won the girls 800m gold and silver respectively with timings of 2:11.36 and 2:11.54. C Tharun Vikash and Paveena Rajesh bagged the boys high jump and girls triple jump gold respectively for the hosts. TN also earned a gold-silver finish in girls triple jump, with Paveena winning gold (12.10m) and Pamila Varshini O (11.84m) coming second.
Raining bronze for hosts in boxing: K Naveen Kumar won TN’s first boxing medal (bronze) in the boys 54kg category. He was soon followed by G Kabilan, Jeeva and Durgasri SM, who also won bronze medals in respective weight categories.
TN continue to shine in mallakhamb: K Boomika from TN bagged the silver medal in pole mallakhamb with a total of 8.25 points. Meanwhile, TN’s KV Rohit Sai Ram won the bronze medal in rope mallakhamb registering 8.50 points.
