Vijay, in a release, said, “The ECI has registered our party and has permitted it to contest in elections as a registered party. I am happy to share this with you (cadres).” After the formation of his party, Vijay had applied for registration with the ECI on Feb 2. The ECI had sought objections from political parties, if any.

The announcement comes soon after the release of his film ‘GOAT’ (Greatest of All Time) on Sept 5.

Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK), a splinter group of PMK, founded by Panruti MLA T Velmurugan, had raised an objection to the use of the acronym TVK. Despite his objections, however, the ECI has shown the green flag for the registration of Vijay’s party with the similar acronym TVK.

Calling the registration with ECI the “first step towards victory”, Vijay said work for the first conference was on and urged cadres to wait for the official announcement.

TVK had applied for permission with Villupuram police to hold its first conference on Sep 23 in Vikravandi. The permission is yet to be given.
