TVK’s JCD Prabhakar set to become Tamil Nadu speaker unopposed as Vijay backs seasoned hand
CHENNAI: TVK MLA JCD Prabhakar is set to become the speaker of the Tamil Nadu assembly, as he filed his nomination papers for the post with assembly secretary K Srinivasan on Monday.
Prabhakar, who won from Thousand Lights in the 2026 assembly election, is likely to be elected unopposed when the newly constituted house convenes on Tuesday.
The senior leader, a former AIADMK MLA who joined TVK ahead of the polls, is among the senior-most legislators in the ruling combine and played a key organisational role in Vijay’s campaign and manifesto preparation.
His appointment is being seen as an attempt by the Vijay-led government to balance the party’s youthful image with legislative experience.
The 73-year-old leader had defeated DMK’s Ezhilan Naganathan in Thousand Lights by over 12,000 votes.
