Two Chennai cops suspended for drunken brawl

CHENNAI: Two constables attached to

Teynampet

police station in Chennai were placed under suspension for drinking liquor while they were in uniform and attacking a man.

The suspended constables have been identified as

Gnanasekaran

and Manikandan. Manikandan had been earlier transferred from the station for his connection with history-sheeters and rowdy elements. He recently returned to Teynampet police station.

The incident happened on Sunday night at Thiru Vi Ka quarters. Pugazhesan, 24, an autorickshaw driver, of the same locality was consuming liquor on a roadside near his house. The two drunk constables who were passing by picked up a quarrel with Pugazhesan and beat him up. The victim reportedly suffered injuries and was treated in hospital.

Tension prevailed in the area after neighbours gathered and argued with the policemen. Pugazhesan's wife Vadivukkarasi filed a complaint, and the two

cops

were placed under suspension.
