Two more arrested in ‘Jana Nayagan’ film leak case

Chennai: The TN cybercrime wing arrested the mastermind behind the leak and circulation of the unreleased Tamil film ‘Jana Nayagan’, along with another accused, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 19. Police have, however, withheld the names and identities of the suspects. Merely stating that they were residents of Thiruverkadu, sources said they were detained based on digital forensics.

The complaint files with the cybercrime police said that confidential footage of the movie was accessed without authorization, copied, transmitted and circulated online, causing substantial financial and commercial loss to the producers.

Police conducted detailed technical analysis, digital forensic examinations and intelligence-based inquiries to identify those involved in the piracy network. Based on the evidence, 17 were already arrested and are lodged in Puzhal prison.

The two persons arrested on Wednesday have been remanded in judicial custody.
