CHENNAI: A special team from the Kundrathur police station nabbed a 25-year-old woman, who is said to have poisoned her two children, after she called her
lover
using the mobile phone of a traffic policeman from
Kanyakumari
.
Police said Vijay, 30, an employee of a private bank and his wife, Abirami, were living with their children Ajay, 7, and Karnika, 4, in a rented house in Tiruvalluvar Nagar, Moondramkattalai near Kundrathur. On Saturday, Vijay had come home to find his children dead, and his wife missing. He informed the police. The kids' bodies were sent to the Government General Hospital at Chromepet for post-mortem, which revealed the kids were poisoned.
Investigation revealed that Abirami, was having an extramarital
affair
with Sundaram, and that the two planned on getting married. Soon after Abirami went missing, police detained Sundaram to know her whereabouts.
"Abirami, who managed to reach Kanyakumari, broke, discarded her
sim card
. She called Sundaram using a cellphone she borrowed from a traffic policeman and told him she is in Kanyakumari, from where we nabbed her," said an investigation officer. "She committed the crime as she felt the children and her husband would be a hindrance to her plans," said a cop from Kundrathur station.
