2 women steal ear studs from elderly

COIMBATORE: The city police have formed a special team to nab two unidentified

women

, who

snatched

a pair of ear studs from an elderly woman at Saibaba Colony on Wednesday.


According to police, two women clad in

burqa

entered the house of M Baskar, 54, on NSR Road at Saibaba Colony at 3pm on Wednesday and asked his wife Dhanalakshmi for a cup of water.

“When Dhanalakhmi entered the kitchen to fetch water, the two women pushed her down and assaulted her using razors. They looked for her gold chain and when they didn’t find one they forcibly removed her ear studs and fled,” an investigation officer said.

Baskar subsequently alerted the Saibaba Colony police, who held an inquiry with Dhanalakshmi. Police have collected some CCTV footage, which showed two women, who were wearing burqa, walking on NSR Road.

“Some women bag lifters used to wear burqa while travelling in buses. We have formed a special team to nab the duo,” P Perumal, deputy commissioner of police (crime), said.
