2-yr-old girl killed as auto rams her
Coimbatore: A two-year-old girl child was killed after a goods autorickshaw hit her while she was playing behind it at Kumaran Nagar in Ganapathy in the city on Thursday.
Traffic investigation wing (East) of the city police identified the deceased as Saisree, daughter of R Veeramadavan, 39, of Kumaran Nagar. A police officer said Veeramadavan was a driver with the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Limited (TNSTC).
“He owned a goods autorickshaw and it was operated by Chandrakanth, 30, of Vilankudi in Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district,” the officer said.
On Thursday, Chandrakanth visited Veeramadavan’s house to settle the account. “The two walked out of the house and sat inside the goods autorickshaw. They did not notice Saisree, who was playing behind the vehicle,” the officer said.
Suddenly, Chandrankanth reversed the autorickshaw, which hit the minor girl. The child suffered head injuries and she was immediately taken to a private hospital at Avarampalayam, where she died without responding to the treatment.
The body was then sent to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for postmortem and it was handed over to the family members the same afternoon.
The traffic investigation wing police have registered a case against the driver and further investigation is on.
