AIDWA demands more compensation for victim’s family

Coimbatore: Members of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) on Monday urged the collector to increase the compensation given to the family of the seven-year-old girl,

Speaking to reporters, AIDWA vice-president U Vasuki said that the chief minister had announced Rs 3lakh compensation to the family. “The government should increase the amount. Also, we request the government to provide government job to the victim’s mother and to construct a police station at Kasthurinaickenpudhur near Thudiyalur,” she said.

“Several sexual assault cases against women were reported from the region, which lacks toilets in every household. As a result, women are forced to defecate in the open,” she said and urged government officials to construct toilets at such localities.

“Also, a meeting presided by the collector and superintendent of police should be held at least once a month to discuss the issued faced by the women in the district. Discussions with women’s association and activists will help to identify and tackle crimes against them,” Vasuki added.
