NAMAKKAL: Borewell truck owners in Namakkal, Tirupur, Coimbatore and Erode districts have been on strike since Friday demanding an increase in drilling charges due to the rising prices of diesel, spare parts and others.
"Owners of more than 1,000 borewell trucks are on strike," said Tiruchengode Borewell Truck Owners Association president Suresh.
The truck owners demand that the minimum price for drilling a four-and-a-quarter inch borewell be increased from Rs 85 to Rs 200, and the minimum price for drilling a six-and-a-half inch borewell be increased from Rs 85 to Rs 350.
The truck owners urged the state govt to look into their demands. They threatened that they would not withdraw their strike until their demands were met.
