Burglar who murdered govt schoolteacher held

Erode: Police on Friday arrested a 53-year-old man in connection with the murder of a government schoolteacher on August 20. They also recovered gold chains amounting to eight sovereigns, which the accused had stolen from the woman.
Erode district SP G Jawahar told reporters that the deceased identified as M Buvaneswari, 53, a government schoolteacher of Kollampalayam was found stabbed to death and the gold chains she was wearing were missing.
Police zeroed in on the suspect, now identified as K Jayakumar, 52, of Periyasadayampalayam, while checking CCTV camera footage installed in the locality. He was spotted near the deceased’s residence on the day of the crime. Jayakumar confessed to the crime when interrogated by a special team police.
According to the SP, Jayakumar had come to meet his friend Balaram, who had rented a house on the first floor of the teacher’s residence. He entered the victim’s house when her husband left for a walk. Buvaneswari who caught him in the act, raised an alarm. Jayakumar then stabbed her neck, killing her on the spot.
The Surampatty police have arrested Jayakumar based on his confession statement. .
