Coimbatore: The

cyber crime section

of the

Coimbatore city police

have registered a case against two men for

harassing

the general secretary of All India Democratic

Women

's Association (AIDWA), U Vasuki on Facebook.

The accused in the case were identified as Pon Shankar and Padmadas, said cyber crime officials. The members of

Communist Party

of India had lodged a complaint against the accused on Friday evening.

Around two weeks ago, a Hindu Munnani cadre C Sasikumar was murdered while he was returning home. Sasi Kumar's death resulted in a day-long bandh and during his funeral procession, cadres and miscreants took up violence. Shops were damaged, places of worship were attacked, and people were assaulted.

Following the rampage, the state general secretary of AIDWA, U Vasuki visited Coimbatore and petitioned the collector, stating that every person behind the violence should be arrested and the state government should provide compensation to the victims.

Reacting to Vasuki's petition, two men posted abusive remarks on Facebook. "The accused used abusive words against Vasuki, and their remarks were vulgar," cyber crime department officer said. Based on this, the members of CPM registered a complaint. "We have verified the complaint, and have checked the Facebook post. At present we only have their names, and efforts are being made to locate the accused," the officer said.

Police have booked the two on charges of sexual harassment, outraging the modesty of women and creating disharmony in public.
