Karthika, 30, filed a complaint of

woman harassment

against her

brother-in-law

Vishwa Prasad on Wednesday. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

Vishwa Prasad married Karthika’s sister Yuva Rani around seven years ago and has a four-year-old child.

Both Karthika and Yuva Rani live in the same locality- Vadakalur. Karthika lived alone and so Yuva Rani would cook food for her.

On Wednesday 8am, Karthika asked Yuva Rani to quickly serve breakfast as she was getting late for the court. “This angered Vishwa Prasad, and he picked up a quarrel with Karthika. In the heat of the moment, he also abused Karthika and assaulted her,” said police.

Meanwhile, the Sulur police was searching for a 26-year-old man for allegedly harassing his wife and her sister.

Nirmala A from Sulur filed a complaint against her brother-in-law for allegedly harassing her sister. Niwaz G, a resident of Varadarajapuram Medu, married Shobana around 10 months ago. Niwaz is an alcoholic and was undergoing a rehabilitation programme at JSV de-addiction centre, Ponneri, Tiruvallur district. He is an insurance agent by profession.

Niwaz was irregular at his work and prevented his wife Shobana from working too. According to the police, Niwaz would repeatedly harass Shobana. Her sister Nirmala filed a complaint with the all-woman police station in Perur on March 5.

Angered over the police complaint, Niwaz went to Nirmala’s house and picked up a quarrel with her and Shobana. “He abused the women and assaulted them,” police said.
