Maid arrested for stealing gold jewellery from employer’s house in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police arrested a 23-year-old domestic help on Friday for stealing 43 sovereigns of gold jewellery and a diamond ring from her employer’s house in Dr Munusamy Nagar Extension in

Ramanathapuram

The arrested woman has been identified as Vinitha,23, wife of Pradeep of Kattuvalavu village in

Salem

district.

Her employer M S Rajasekar, owner of an IT firm, left for his native place in Sivaganga district with his family on January 23, police said. “They returned on January 26, but came to know about the

theft

on February 28. Vinitha had stopped working a month ago and had switched off her phone,” a police officer said.

The family suspected Vinitha’s role behind the theft and lodged a complaint with the Ramanathapuram investigation wing police.

A police team led by inspector Prabhadevi recovered 43 sovereigns of the stolen gold jewellery and the diamond ring from Vinitha, who was in Salem. She was remanded in judicial custody and was lodged in the special prison for women in Coimbatore.
