‘Make use of bus terminal building’

Coimbatore: DMK floor leader for corporation council R Karthikeyan urged the authorities to put the structure constructed for the Vellalore Integrated Bus Terminal for some other use as its condition might turn bad if it remains unused for long. He was speaking at the council meeting held on Monday. The fate of the building, which was taken up by the previous AIADMK government at a cost of 40 lakh, has been in the limbo since the DMK government took over two years ago. There is no official announcement yet on the future of the bus terminal project.Speaking on another topic, east zone chairman Ilakkumi Izhamselvi Karthik urged officials to widen Sowripalayam and Uppilipalayam Roads before the Singanallur flyover work is taken up.“Already, these two roads are congested. They will become more congested once the proposed Singanallur flyover work begins. They should be widened on priority basis,” she said.Many councillors also raised complaints against Suez India, which has been implementing drinking water projects for the corporation, for causing inconvenience to the public by not completing works after digging up roads.Central zone chairman Meena Loganathan said Suez employees are taking up fresh works before completing the existing works. Residents are facing difficulty due to incomplete works. At some places, works have not been completed even after starting them months ago.Meanwhile, the chief engineer in the commissionerate of municipal administration has approved the revision of monthly UGD charges and deposit amount made by the city corporation in November last year. The documents relating to this was submitted at the meeting on Monday.
