SALEM: Forest department officers arrested six men on charges of poaching a spotted deer with an unlicensed gun in Salem district.
On Monday evening, the forest department got a tip-off that a spotted deer had been hunted, and its meat had been used for making biryani at one Kumaresan’s house in Pazhayur.
The officers rushed to the house. On seeing the officers, the suspects fled. “The officers chased them and caught them from nearby Chellapillaikuttai with the help of locals,” said south forest range officer P Durai Murugan.
They seized the leftover deer meat and a gun from Kumaresan’s house.
A case was registered. The arrested men were remanded in judicial custody.
