NAMAKKAL: The Kumarapalayam police in the Namakkal district have registered a case against two men who posted defamatory videos on social media platforms about the health condition of students at a private college. As many as 128 students reported health problems on Tuesday night after consuming food and contaminated water in a canteen at the Excel Engineering College. Consequently, the management decided to close the college for five days.
Some YouTubers shared videos on social media platforms alleging that several students had died after consuming food. "While all the students are in good health, two YouTubers -- 'P Victor (@Pokkiri_Victor)' and L Phoenix Vignesh (@PhoenixAdmk) -- have disseminated false information on social media claiming that some students had died," said Namakkal district superintendent S Vimala. She noted that by spreading false information, they had incited tension within the community and disrupted public order.
In response to a complaint received, the Kumarapalayam police registered a case and began investigations. The SP said stringent legal measures would be enforced against those who had posted false information on social media platforms.
