CUTTACK: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) will set up cushioned play areas for children at three places in the city, including a special park on the banks of the Kathajodi river, to make playing enjoyable and injury-free for kids.
A CMC official said the cushioning layer will be built using EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), a type of synthetic rubber surface, used to safeguard injuries. "As kids usually get exposed to several hard surfaces while playing, this material will help make playing safe for them," he said.
The civic body will provide a 4,000 square feet area near the Judicial Academy chhak on the banks of the Kathajodi for the park and another 6,000 sq. ft in two more places at Sector 9 and 11 for the playing areas.
"Play area will be equipped with various stairs, swings, small tunnels and slope. Moreover, watch towers and several other playing equipment will be provided," said Subhash Singh, CMC mayor. "We have sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for the project. A tender has been floated for the project. A deadline of six months has been given to finish the work," he added.
