DEHRADUN: The Union government has sanctioned Rs 1,036 crore for the four-laning of the Bhaniyawala-Rishikesh road and the upgradation of the Bareilly-Sitarganj highway.

While the Bhaniyawala-Rishikesh road is an important project as it connects Dehradun with the key tourist destination Rishikesh, the Bareilly-Sitarganj route is an important one linking Kumaon with western Uttar Pradesh.

"The two key projects will help in the movement of vehicles within and outside the state," CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said. Besides, the Centre has approved Rs 65.9 crore as special assistance to Uttarakhand and Rs 72 crore as a capital outlay.

The CM added, "The financial assistance from the Centre was important for the construction of Uttarakhand Bhavan in New Delhi, the construction of Tanakpur Bus Terminal and the development of public transport infrastructure, including electric charging infrastructure, in Uttarakhand."
