DEHRADUN: Cricket coach Narendra Shah, who has trained India all-rounder Sneh Rana in her formative years, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison at his Nehru Colony home on Friday. He was rushed to the Government Doon Medical College Hospital in a critical state and is currently on ventilator support, as per cops.

A police officer said that Shah "may have taken the drastic step after some audio clips of him speaking inappropriately to a girl student, surfaced on social media a few days ago." He added though that "it is difficult to say what the immediate provocation was, until a thorough investigation is done."

Vidya Bhushan Negi, station house officer of the city's Kotwali police station, told TOI that "no case has been registered in the matter so far." Bowling all-rounder Sneh Rana, who is currently ranked 15th in T20Is among bowlers, is a resident of Dehradun and trained at the academy in the city where Shah coaches. She was a reserve player for India in the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa, and was inducted into the squad for the semi-finals as a replacement, which the team lost by a whisker. She is a part of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL) and plays for the Gujarat Giants.
