Rudrapur: A radiology student of a private medical institute and an employee at a pathology laboratory were arrested late Wednesday night in connection with a series of motorcycle thefts across Rudrapur city in Udham Singh Nagar district.
Acting on several complaints regarding stolen motorcycles in areas, including Metropolis Mall, district hospital and nearby commercial areas, a special police team was formed by SSP Ajay Ganpati to launch an investigation into the matter.
Police intercepted radiology student Bhola Sarkar and laboratory associate Vicky Biswas, both 22 and residents of Rudrapur, near Sidcul City Park, and recovered six motorcycles and one scooter from their possession. During interrogation, the accused admitted that they stole vehicles to make “quick and easy money”. However, the absence of registration documents prevented them from disposing of the vehicles.
The SSP said FIRs were registered against the two at Pantnagar police station under section 303(2) (theft) of BNS, and efforts are underway to trace the owners of the remaining vehicles.
