Raging rivers and crumbling hills: Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in chaos (see pics)

Heavy overnight rains lashed Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, triggering floods, landslides, and damage to homes, roads, shops, and infrastructure across multiple districts.

In Uttarakhand, roads, houses, and shops in Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Tehri were damaged. A bridge was washed away, and residents were stranded due to waterlogging and debris from landslides.

Two to three people are reported missing in Dehradun, while landslides in Majhara village have left some unaccounted for. In Mussoorie, a fatality is being verified, increasing concern among local communities.

Waterlogging in areas like IT Park in Dehradun left people stranded in offices and vehicles. Roads and basements were flooded, cutting off transport and communication for many hours.

Relief teams from the administration, SDRF, and police are actively involved in rescue and relief operations. Hundreds of people have been evacuated from high-risk areas to safer shelters.

In Mandi district, a house collapse caused by landslides killed three family members. Rescue teams recovered bodies and continue to search for others trapped under debris.

Himachal’s Dharampur bus stand was flooded, with over 20 buses, shops, and workshops damaged. Pump houses were also affected, cutting off essential services and transport links.

Heavy rains triggered landslides in Shimla’s Himland area, burying vehicles and blocking main roads. Local residents managed to escape, but fear and damage remain widespread.

The Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple in Dehradun was submerged, though its sanctum remained safe. Local priests urged people to avoid riverbanks while rescue efforts continue.
