U’khand calls for technology growth on Nat’l Farmers’ Day
Dehradun: As part of celebrations marking the National Farmers' Day, various events were held across the state on Monday to honour contributions of farmers. On the occasion, The Times of India hosted an event ‘Times Inspire - Farmer Day Celebration' to honour the farmers of Uttarakhand in Dehradun. This year's theme was Farmers' Day – Empowering ‘Annadatas' for a Prosperous Nation.During the event, state agriculture and horticulture minister, Ganesh Joshi, lauded TOI's efforts in recognising the dedication of farmers, He noted that the state aims to multiply production and farmers' income in the coming years. "We are happy to share that organic farming, natural farming, and various other modern tech-linked progresses are being made in Uttarakhand at a fast pace. Digitisation will be a game-changer in enhancing farmers' income," Joshi said.Meanwhile, various academic institutions like the ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ICAR-IISWC) in Dehradun, also organised a Kisan Diwas celebration at Echla-Fateu village in Kalsi Block. The event was conducted under the Agri-Drone Project and the institute's Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) scheme to commemorate the birth anniversary of former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh, observed as Kisan Diwas. Principal scientist M Muruganandam spoke on the transformative role of drones in agriculture. He said, "As technology advances and production scales increase, drones will become more accessible and cost-effective for farmers and agricultural cooperatives, enabling widespread adoption in rural and farming settings."Members of Bhartiya Kisan Union also held a symbolic fast at Gandhi Park in Dehradun to mark the occasion. The federation's chairperson, Somdatt Sharma, expressed concern over the ongoing fast of their leader, Jagjit Dallewal, who was protesting in Delhi for the past 28 days, with some of his supporters also being arrested. Sharma said, "Despite these efforts, their voices are not being heard."
