Brexit effect: After Centre returns 14 bills, Kejriwal asks if it's Delhi's headmaster
NEW DELHI: The Centre on Friday sent back 14 bills that were passed in the Delhi Assembly.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said it returned the bills as the AAP government had not followed the correct procedure.
"Should the centre have the power to stop every law related to Delhi? Shouldn't the elected Delhi Assembly have the right to make laws? Is the Centre Delhi's headmaster?" Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.
"Modi's slogan - Neither will I work, nor will I let you work", he again ttweeted in Hindi.
Earlier on Friday, after the Brexit vote result, Kejriwal got a fresh impetus to renew calls for statehood for Delhi.
"After UK referendum, Delhi will soon have a referendum on full statehood," Kejriwal tweeted.
Statehood for the capital city was one of Chief Minister Kejriwal's promises while he was campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections. The CM has long held that the Centre unduly interferes in Delhi's functioning.
It's also no secret that the AAP government and the Centre have been at loggerheads constantly, for control over the Delhi Police department, land and the transfer of officials. Kejriwal once even called Pm Modi a "control freak".
