NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man was killed on Friday when a speeding car allegedly hit his scooter from behind, causing him to fall off the Badarpur flyover.
The deceased was identified as Pratap Singh, who lived in New Seemapuri. The driver of the offending vehicle, Virender Rana (35), a resident of Uttam Nagar, has been arrested.
Police received information about the incident at 6.17 pm from a hospital.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Singh was travelling from Faridabad to Sarita Vihar on his scooter. On the Badarpur flyover near Tughlakabad metro station, his scooter was hit from behind by a car. The impact of the hit was such that he fell from the flyover onto the service road. “He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival,” an officer said.
The accused, Rana, works as an assistant manager in the purchase department of a two-wheeler showroom in Noida. He was travelling home from Faridabad. Police suspect he was driving at a high speed. A case has been registered.
The victim was unmarried and worked for a company in Indirapuram. “His job involved visiting customers to deliver chemicals. He might have been returning from a customer visit. Chemical samples were found in his bag,” the officer said.
