Chhath Puja holiday in Delhi: What’s open and what’s closed today; check full list
NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced that Monday, October 27, will be observed as a public holiday in the national capital on account of the Chhath festival, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a statement.
The festival, celebrated with grandeur and devotion, has seen elaborate preparations across the city this year. Over 1,000 ghats have been set up by the Delhi government for devotees to perform rituals safely and conveniently.
Schools And Colleges:All schools across Delhi will remain closed on Monday. Most private colleges are also expected to stay shut.
Government And Private Offices:
Offices under the Delhi government will remain closed, while private offices are expected to function as usual. However, an official notification from the government is awaited.
Transport Services and Hospitals
Public transport — including Delhi Metro, buses, and autorickshaws — will operate as per their regular schedules to ensure smooth movement for commuters and devotees.
All essential services, including hospitals, emergency services, and public utilities, will function without any disruption.
Delhi Gears Up For Grand Chhath Celebrations
Following Diwali festivities, the Delhi government has made extensive arrangements to celebrate Chhath Puja with “grandeur” and “divinity,” said Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
The four-day festival, which began on Saturday (October 25) with the ritual of Nahay-Khay, marks the start of the auspicious Chhath Mahaparv. Devotees gathered in large numbers at riverbanks and artificial ghats to take holy dips and offer prayers to the Sun God.
This Year, The Rituals Will Be Observed As Follows:
Nahay-Khay – October 25
Kharna – October 26
Chhath Puja (Sandhya Arghya) – October 27
Usha Arghya (morning offering) – October 28
The celebrations will conclude on Tuesday morning with devotees offering Usha Arghya to the rising sun, marking the end of Chhath Puja.
