CNG prices hiked again in NCR; 2nd increase in 2 days pushes Delhi rate past Rs 80/kg
NEW DELHI: Residents across Delhi-NCR are facing another fuel price hike as compressed natural gas (CNG) prices were increased again on Sunday, marking the second hike in just two days.
With the latest revision, CNG prices in Delhi have risen by Re 1 per kg to Rs 80.09 per kg, while consumers in Noida and Ghaziabad will now pay Rs 88.70 per kg.
The fresh increase comes after gas companies had already raised CNG prices by Rs 2 per kg on May 15.
Following that revision, the price in Delhi had climbed from Rs 77.09 per kg to Rs 79.09 per kg.
The latest hike follows a broader increase in fuel prices across the country. Earlier this week, petrol and diesel prices were raised by Rs 3 per litre amid rising global energy prices linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict.
After the revision, petrol in Delhi is retailing at Rs 97.77 per litre, up from Rs 94.77, while diesel prices have increased from Rs 87.67 to Rs 90.67 per litre.
Reacting to the price hike, a consumer at a CNG station in Lodhi Road, said, "Prices are rising too much and they should come down. It is definitely having an impact. Drivers are not getting any benefit from it."
Another consumer said to news agency PTI, "With the increase in CNG prices, it first went up by Rs 3 and today it has increased by around Rs 1 more. Poor people like us are badly affected. The fare for our vehicles has not increased, but CNG prices keep rising. It is making a big difference for poor people like us. Our demand from the government is that CNG prices should be reduced, and our fares should be increased."
State-run oil companies said the increase in CNG prices was part of efforts to offset higher input costs triggered by volatility in international energy markets.
However, sources told news agency PTI that the current hikes still cover only a fraction of the surge in global fuel prices since the conflict escalated in West Asia.
